Behind the Book

An intelligent, good-looking young man, Rudra should have been going places, except wherever he goes, he faces ridicule and humiliation because he stammers. His stammering has only ever brought him the wrong kind of attention and he has never been able to overcome it or move past it. Now at 25, he feels completely stifled and embittered that Mumbai, the city of dreams, has always crushed his own dreams, particularly his long-cherished one of becoming a film actor.

Then he meets Richa and love gives him a ray of hope. But heartbreak devastates him and he spins into a downward spiral that eventually pushes him to rock bottom. Now, his only way up is to conquer his fear and insecurity once and for all and speak.

Will Mumbai finally listen?

About the Author

Rishi Vohra relocated back to Mumbai after completing a Green MBA from San Francisco State University and a Masters Diploma in Environmental Law, prior to which he had an extensive career in the Indian Entertainment Industry. His debut novel Once Upon the Tracks of Mumbai was a bestseller and awarded a special mention at the Hollywood Book Festival. He writes for delWine and is a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW).

One thing I love the most about all the books of Rishi Vohra is his ability to make the story seem so real and plausible. The words literally come alive on the pages, as you visualize scene after scene. I have been reading every work of his since his debut in 2013, Once Upon The Tracks of Mumbai and this single ability of his, makes reading his books simply enthralling.

When I was approached by him, yet again to review his next work I was truly overwhelmed. It is one thing for a reader to like and love and author's work, remembering and talking about them while an entirely another thing for an author to remember a reviewer who has been a part of their journey as an author since their first book. Thank you so much, Rishi - this gesture truly means a lot to me!

The other thing about his books is that they all have some positive message for the reader to take back. In short, his stories are drenched in tons of hope and written with the ink of motivation, fragrance of which is sure to captivate the readers' senses like none other.

This story revolves around Rudra Talpade from Mumbai and his aspirations. With characters that are relatable, Rishi Vohra narrates a slice-of-life tale in his inimitable style - full of drama, emotions and loads of inspiration for the reader. The story explores various themes, taking us on a roller coaster ride of emotions as we explore failure, enthusiasm, passion towards one's dreams, love, loss, hurt, anger, joy and most importantly the power of belief. Thoroughly entertaining, the story manages to put you on tenterhooks till the very end as you remain curious to know what's in store next.

It is always arguable that the plot and the ending are totally predictable and cliche, however as I have always said it is the treatment which makes it stand out amongst others and that is exactly where the author scores a brownie point. The story is a complete package- a full on masala entertaining with liberal doses of action, drama, romance and emotions.

A surely recommended read for anyone who is looking for a quick and entertaining read.

Foodie Verdict
