The Calling is a spiritual adventure. It is an encounter with the truth, the wisdom and the force that is innate to us all. At the brink of a divorce and personal breakdown, Arjun took a trip into the heart of the Himalayas, on the insistence of a sadhu, who predicted that the journey up to Hemkund Sahib would align him to his purpose and change his life forever. At every turn the mountains holds secrets and tests that urge Arjun to evolve into the person he had denied to be - himself. Pretenses, falsities, confusions and untruths fall apart as Arjun is forced to confront the mess he had created in his life. What started off as an opportunity to escape reality, turned out to be an opportunity to escape from the dwindling spiral of self-created misery. Filled with spiritual insights and sprinkled with light humor, this story will help you find your calling, your voice and who knows, even your true self.

Me thinks

I have read and reviewed a book by the author previously HERE and have really enjoyed her style of writing since then. When I was approached for a review this time, I was more than elated to read her. What I like the most about her? The way she personalizes and makes a reviewer feel very special. She has inscribed a personal message in the book addressed to me and trust me when I say she is a treat to read (her handwriting is extremely beautiful!) It is really touching when an author goes that extra mile to do this.

Moutains calling - are you going to answer, or ignore the call : this is what my wall paper reads at the moment and this is the best manner in which this book can be described. Narrated to us with the main protagonist Arjun as the lead character this story could actually be the story of our life for anyone of us. This story makes you delve deeper into your own soul and look for the real meaning of life for you. Not the bookish definitions we have been taught since ages but the one that we firmly believe in.

When I started reading the book I never knew what was in store for me. I was expecting some motivation just like her previous book but this one is much more than just motivation. It is a travelogue, self help, fiction, inspirational and motivational all rolled into one. I read this book very leisurely. Well it wasn't because I was busy but because I was thoroughly enjoying it and wanted to soak myself in its beauty. I would read few pages and then take a break to ponder on the points raised by the author. One of those few books I used my reading journal a lot in. I made tiny notes and at the end of the book I was feeling happy, satisfied and deeply moved. She introduced me to myself, in many ways. Kudos to the author for writing it so well that it evokes so many feelings in one single reader.

This book is a gem of a read, not only for yourself but even for your loved ones. Strongly recommended for one and all. This is a reminder we all need in today's times.

Foodie Verdict

This book is like dudhi muthiya - a unique dish but delectable and yummilicious in every bite (read:word)
